I’ve been pretty busy lately with my real world job that I haven’t updated my blog or projects much lately. I’m hoping to join a Gravatar project over at: http://gravatarnet.codeplex.com/

The project makes use of the entire Gravatar API to provide .Net support. It’s a great attempt to add the widely used avatar system to .Net. Probably the project so far.

I do plan on finishing my UStream.Tv software as well. They changed the REST API up on me and even changed the API Key system and keys, so I have to rewrite my wrapper for their API

We’re going to offer user accounts that allow syncing of your streams/favorites to our servers for easy retrieval from any system. Live notifications of when you’re favorite streams are online and broadcasting and email notification if you’re software isn’t running.

There are a lot of beginner and even intermediate level developers that have no idea how to access/modify a forms objects/methods from within a different class. I’ll show you the easiest practice of this.

First we have to make a reference. We must use the ‘protected’ keyword. I use the same name as the windows form that way it is easy to keep track of variables.

Once that is done you must set each method and object you want to access to public. You do this from the Forms Designer Class.

And that’s it. With just 2 lines of code you can now access you forms controls and methods.

[Sorry for the images of the code, my code-box plugin is broken]

I haven’t completly neglected the site. I’ll post some code tutorials tonight on a few more hashing techniques and string encryption. I will also be posting soon a tutorial on how to control a forms events and controls from within a different class. Unlike VB.NET, C# does not automatically inherit the forms methods and control methods.

I’ll also talk about obfuscation and .Net application security, secure string and anti-debugging methods.

For a while now several people, including myself, were unhappy with the anticheat provided for Delta Force: Black Hawk Down (DF:BHD). Who isn’t unhappy about that issue? There’s been some Anti Cheat Programs in the past but many in DF:BHD were never succesful. We do know that DF:BHD is ageing, but still we believe for us this is the community where a new Anti Cheat Program (ACP) is required. Therefor a new ACP started some time ago in private to start developing a solid ACP for several games, starting with DF:BHD, this ACP goes by the name cheatSense, this ACP is us.

We welcome you on into our fresh and new community, below this post some more official details about cheatSense will be explained:

cheatSense or in a shorter way: cSense, as said before will start on the game DF:BHD (version 1.5). cSense wants to be involved with the community as much as possible. We invite you to visit us here, and share us your ideas, shareyour views. One thing we will guarantee you all here now is that we will listen, we will read what you write down here.We will answer where we can. But not just will we welcome your views and answer your questions, we will also provide you with frequent updates. Not just software related updates for our ACP clients, but we’ll also provide you with updates on the progress of all those clients and upcoming releases.

We come from all over. Our staff is small, however it’s efficient and has a huge variety which makes sure we don’t just listen to one voice in the community, we tend to listen to everyone. Now when we’re speaking about our staff. At this point we’re willing to accept various staff applications for various things such as ‘beta-testers/support-staff’ and ‘coding-staff’. However this does not mean we are in the ‘need’ of staff. Our current staff can work very well and the progress is great. However we appreciate new staff applications.

So what do you know now? You know cSense will be an ACP that will start on DF:BHD and aims to provide it’s services for other games as well. Plus you now know we’ll listen to you. One thing has to be said about that though, all our staff members do this on voluntary basis. This means we do not have 24/7 time to answer you. But we’re sure you all understand this. Also cheatSense is a free ACP, we do not demand anything from anyone, however if you want to support us you can always donate at: donate@cheatsense.com. We will be carefully with all the donations we get, we’ll make sure the donations we get will be used effectively and properly. People who donate to us can also ask us what we do with the donations, we will give you an honest answer in return.

cSense Client features:

Multiple game support

Launch your game automatically

Submit your status to the lobby (see lobby)

Automatically detect cheats (various methods)

Update the internal database on the fly

Screen capture feature

cSense Lobby features:

Automatically display all servers which have cSense clients in, or are running a server version.

Display the cSense clients on each server

Make a public VCard (customizable)

Keep track of all banned cSense clients

Multiple game support

Easy export to your own website (using xml or xslt)

Off course our features will get updated and/or more features will be added to our software. We’ve decided to go public with our project before our release, so we can slowly build on a community and get input from the community itself plus already answer various questions from that same community. However don’t be afraid, cheatSense does not want you to wait long (we also know you don’t need to wait long), we want to provide you with updates. We will not provide you with an official release date as of yet. We however will keep you updated on the progress of our software so you will be updated as much as possible (for example the screen capturing software works). We will give you an official release date once we’re more sure about that, we do have a guess of when it will be, but we don’t want to risk to be in the need to delay a release.

With this being said we hope to have you informed well enough. Once more we welcome you to our community, enjoy your stay. However be sure to have read our website & forum rules before posting!

Any questions contact feel free to ask there or send an email at support@cheatsense.com.

I’ve been working on a few applications were I’ve been using TinyURL a lot. So, I thought I’d create a library for .NET that contains functions for the most popular URL Shorten-er sites.

Function TinyURL
Function TimesURL
Function DoiopURL
Function MemURL
Function DwarfURL
Function SnipURL
Function ShorlURL
Function LoajURL
Function BitlyURL
Function IsGdURL
Function SixURL
Function TightURL
Function UrlXURL
Function YepItURL

Total there are 14 function that all server the same purpose. It’s really a personal preference as to what service you want to use. Each function accepts 1 overload and returns a single String.

Example:

dim sTest As String = TimesURL(sURL)

The library will be available soon. Any interest in this or ideas please leave a comment.

Did you guys know that you can go to your local field office with emails, chats, websites; etc? Why? To have them tracked to the source. Maybe you’ve been getting threatening, bullying or disrespectful emails. This is a CRIME now. Ever since that little girl in Saint Louis killed herself over MySpace, it is now a FELONY to do this! This is not a matter to be taking lightly. Bullying can lead to depression, suicide, altered behavior, paranoia, poor grades and can ruin families/friends lives!

If you have ANY emails, chats or IM’s like this I urge you to report it to your local field office or county office. Portraying to be someone else to bully is not only a felony for cyber bullying, it’s also a felony for cyber terrorism, wire fraud and identity theft.

Check back later for a more detailed report.

There’s already been over 5,000 downloads and the number is growing everyday. There are reports of bugs and what not, I will address them here.

Default Icon Struct:
I did this so we wouldn’t have to remember the names of the 3 fallback icon sets Gravatar offers.

Rating Struct:
Sure, there are only 4 ratings(G, PG, R, X) but maybe someone don’t know that. So I created a struct for this as well.

Some people are having trouble returning an image into memory. I recommend using MemoryStream for this. You can also attach the Gravatar to a listbox, combobox, textbox and almost any other control applicable.

So check out the Gravatar page and enjoy!

When you receive an email, you receive more than just the message.
The email comes with headers that carry important information that can tell where the email was sent from and possibly who sent it. For that, you would need to find the IP address of the sender. The tutorial below can help you find the IP address of the sender. Note that this will not work if the sender uses anonymous proxy servers.

Finding IP address in Yahoo! Mail

1. Log into your Yahoo! mail with your username and password.
2. Click on Inbox or whichever folder you have stored your mail.
3. Open the mail.
4. If you do not see the headers above the mail message, your headers are not displayed. To display the headers,* Click on Options on the top-right corner* In the Mail Options page, click on General Preferences* Scroll down to Messages where you have the Headers option* Make sure that Show all headers on incoming messages is selected* Click on the Save button* Go back to the mails and open that mail.
5. You should see similar headers like this:Yahoo! headers : nameLook for Received: from followed by the IP address between square brackets [ ]. Here, it is 202.65.138.109.That is be the IP address of the sender!
6. Track the IP address of the sender.

If there’s one thing that annoys me more than talking on the phone it’s someone calling from a blocked ID. But now, with a new service from TelTech Systems, called TrapCall, you can pull the mask off any any blocked caller ID. After registering your phone number on their Website, TrapCall enables users to find out the telephone number, name and even the billing address of whoever’s calling from the blocked ID.

The service is free for users only wanting to unmask the phone number of the blocked call, with two additional levels of pay service ($10- or $25-per month) that offer additional services, like voicemail transcription, missed call alerts and incoming call recording capablities.

So, sorry stalkers, you’re going to have to find another way to annoy the hell out people – you’re cover’s just been blown.

I thought I would share with you guys 15 Search Tips for Google. Hopefully this info is helpful to some of you

1. Google Calculator
How this works is your type an equation into the search field and it will give you the result. Example: 2*4 – 23*5 + 1000. After you type this in and click search or enter it will give you the result. You can do addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), division (/), to the power of (^), and square root of a number (sqrt).

2. Dictionary Definitions
You can get the definition of a word by typing “define:” followed by the word. Example: define: canucks. This will get you the definition of canucks.

3. Search for a specific title
Suppose you came across a website you thought was awesome but you forgot to bookmark the site and only remembered the title of it and wanted to find it again. Well you can search by title with Google to hopefully find that website a bit more easily. All you need to do is type “intitle: then the title”. By doing this you will only get results of websites with that line in the title.

4. Google Converter
This is a very useful one if you need to convert something from one unit to another unit quickly. All you need to do is type something like “5km in miles” and it will do the conversion for you. I also use it a lot for changing from Fahrenheit to Celsius (25F to C).

5. Compare Currencies
Google search engine has a built in currency converter so you can go from one currency to another. This is done by simply typing something like “1 USD in CAN” and press enter and it will do the conversion for you.

6. Weather Updates
If you want to know what the weather will be like in your area you can type something like “London weather” and it will give you the conditions in that area.

7. Search for specific file types
If you want to find a certain type of file on the Internet it is normally pretty difficult to find what you are looking for but with the use of Google search you can find file types a bit more easily. You can search for file types by doing something like “Guide to build a good website filetypept”. That will look for files with that name and the file type of a powerpoint presentation.

8. Search on a particular website
If you want to search a particular website from Google you can do this by typing “hitch DVD site:www.amazon.com”. By typing in site: and then the website it will search that website for what you have type before site:.

9. Get the local time anywhere
Want to know the time in London now? You can do that by typing “what time is it London” in the search bar. You can also do it by typing “time (location)” without the quotes.

10. Remove unwanted search results
Have you ever wanted to search for something in particular but wanted to remove some of the search results? You can do this by type -something after the search term to remove it from the search results. Example: James Bond -movie. What that would do is remove the search results of James Bond that included the movie so you would find other things like news, books, etc.

11. Search for URLs
Want to search for a particular URL? You can do so by putting a “_, . , -” in between the words instead of a space. Example: What_are_you_talking_about. This would search for URLs that included those words.

12. Track Flight Status
Want to track a particular flight status? You can do that if you know the airline and flight number. You just need to type in the airline and the flight number to get the status. Example: British airways flight 5. This will bring you the results of this flight from this particular airline.

13. Search Google Groups by the subject line
You can search Google groups by subject line with this little trick. Type “insubject:then topic here” and you will get the Google groups with that subject line.

14. Find Related Sites
This trick will probably be familiar to a bunch of people but is helpful for finding related sites. What you do is type “related:www.site.com”. So if you wanted to find an alternative to the website your are looking at that you may have liked you can use this feature.

15. Find Links to a specific URL
This is pretty helpful for finding backlinks to your website. If you want to find out what websites link to your website you can type “link:www.yoursite.com” and you will get all the results of the websites that link back to yours.

Television ads are often prohibitively expensive for small businesses to produce and air. Magazine and radio ads are less expensive but still require a sizeable investment when part of an ongoing campaign. Although you can spend a lot of money on an Internet campaign, there are many ways to leverage the Internet and gain free advertising for your business. Following are 20 ideas to consider.

Increase your visibility on search engines: Insert keywords that describe your business into the HTML < META > tags on your Web site pages. Repeat these keywords in the text of your Web site’s homepage. Strategic use of keywords can put your business name at the top of customers’ search results. For more information, see our article “Optimizing Your Site for Search Engines and Directories.”

Put your URL on everything: Maximize your advertising efforts by listing your Web site address on everything you do. Print the URL on your company’s letterhead, on your business cards, on the front of your building or the door to your office suite. Use the URL in your e-mail signature. List the URL on any print advertising that you do, including phone books, brochures, flyers, and direct mail pieces.

Submit your site to every directory, specialty listing, industry organization, and yellow pages you can find: No matter what industry your business is in, there are online directories, such as Yahoo! Yellow Pages, that you should register with. Many business and industry associations allow you to list your business on their Web site. In addition, there are individuals who maintain popular lists of resources; use Web search engines to find these lists, and then create an entry for your business.

Utilize evangelists: Channel the energy of your most enthusiastic staff and encourage them to promote your company’s product as they surf the Web.

Blogs: A Weblog, or blog, is a collection of short articles, essays, or loosely-formatted thoughts, usually written by one individual. Since the 2004 U.S. presidential election, blogs have become extremely popular as both a medium to get your message out and a vehicle for paid advertising. Blogs also encourage reader comments, making them a valuable tool for gathering customer feedback. Companies such as Blogger (www.blogger.com) will host your blog for free. You can also install a blog on your own Web site with free software such as MediaWiki (http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net).

Podcasting: Podcasts are audio files recorded in a radio talk show format. By posting podcasts on your Web site and other sites like Apple’s iTunes (www.itunes.com), customers can subscribe to your podcasts, download them as soon as they are available, and then listen to them on their computers or portable MP3 devices. The software to create podcasts is free; for more information visit www.podcastingnews.com.

Join online communities: No matter what the topic, there are thousands of people discussing it passionately on the Internet. By contributing to these discussion groups, you can inform your customers and advertise your business..

E-mail lists: Cultivate a list of your customers’ e-mail addresses and send them new product announcements, coupons, special offers, and useful information. See our article “Introduction to E-Mail Marketing” for more information.

Get the attention of the press: Pitch news ideas about your industry to local newspapers, radio stations, and television stations. Pitch ideas to Web news sites. Propose that one of your employees be the expert interviewed in the news piece.

Win awards: Research organizations that give awards for the products or services you provide. Apply for these awards and take the process seriously. When you win, make the most of the publicity.

Donate time or resources to a charity: Encourage charitable organizations to promote your business’ donations and involvement. Try to get media coverage for the organizations and community causes you champion.

Publish information and reports about your industry: Provide consumers with free information about your business’ industry. Invest in potential customers and they will invest in you.

Reciprocal links: Companies such as LinkLeads (www.linkleads.com) help businesses by facilitating an exchange of hyperlinks. By allowing a company to insert links to their products on your site, a company will allow you to insert links to your products on its site.

Reciprocal banner ads: Companies such as 123Banners (www.123banners.com) help businesses by facilitating free banner advertisement swaps. By allowing a company to advertise on your site, they allow you to advertise on theirs. Be sure you retain control over what Web sites carry your ads, and what ads you post on your site.

Coupons: Make coupons available on your Web site and e-mail them to your customers. Encourage them to give the coupons to friends and family.

Free samples of your product or service: Offer free samples of your product or service. Distribute these samples as widely as possible. Register your giveaways with Web sites such as A+ Free Stuff (www.aplusfreestuff.com) that act as a clearinghouse for free products. Before giving something away for free, ask customers to provide their e-mail address or fill out a short survey.

Free classified ads: Use services like Yahoo! Classifieds (http://classieds.yahoo.com) to post free ads for your products and services. Also consider posting offers for free samples of your products, sweepstakes, and other giveaways.

Excellent customer service: There’s no advertising like personal recommendations made between friends and family. The best way to encourage this type of “viral marketing” is to provide excellent customer service. Take the time to properly train and motivate your sales people and do what is necessary to satisfy your customers’ needs.

Business alliances and partnerships: Build partnerships with businesses that offer complementary products and services, and then promote each other. Make joint press statements about your industry, your partnership, and your products and services. Make sure your partners provide links from their Web sites to yours.

Ezine: Write an e-mail newsletter, called an ezine, with articles about your industry, your products and services, and related news of interest to your customers. Check out sources such as goarticles.com and ezinearticles.com, which provide free articles you can use in your ezine. Advertise your ezine for free with directory sites such as www.ezine-dir.com.

Not all these ideas may be appropriate for your business. The important thing is to think creatively and experiment. The Internet is an extremely flexible tool that gives your business many avenues for advertisement and enables you to react quickly to customer feedback.
